My name is Isabelle Beecy and I am currently a Master’s of Sports Leadership student at Northeastern University. I went to Ohio State University for my undergraduate degree, where I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications. During my time at Ohio State and so far at Northeastern University, I had several key internships.
I was involved in the pilot program of Ohio State’s Second-year Transformational Experience Program. Students in the program receive a $2,000 stipend to use towards service, artistic, internship or other goals in their lives. I used the stipend to receive media credentials for and travel to several NASCAR and IndyCar races during the 2014 season. That year, I did interviews and wrote news articles and race recaps during each race weekend.
In 2015, I was a part of the Genius Garage Student Racing Team. This team races in the Sports Car Vintage Racing Association and involves students from a variety of majors, whether it is communications, arts or engineering. The engineering students tore apart and rebuilt the car while I and another student focused on the public relations efforts for the team. The above photo is actually one of the team from that year when we raced at the SVRA’s Brickyard Invitational at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
I was also hired as the digital media intern at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the fall of 2016. I helped the track populate and edit their new website, which was launched in December 2016. I was also able to create content for social media, including video shoots, video editing, photos, etc. and managed the track’s Twitter and Vine accounts including during the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup weekend. I was also tasked with filling in push notifications for the track’s app for several different events, such as the Cup weekend and Gift of Lights events. I was able to cover several racing series (e.g., NCWTS, Whelen Modified Tour, Granite State Legends, Loudon Road Racing motorcycle series, etc.) and community outreach events through social media and video. Lastly, I assisted with media credential management and ticket sales as needed.
