  1. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011 and was told he’d never be able to race again.
  2. He’s one of three drivers in a national racing league with diabetes (the other two are Charlie Kimball and Conor Daly over in IndyCar).
  3. His engine tuner injects him with insulin during races and he has a glucose monitor on his dashboard.
  4. His foundation, Ryan’s Mission, focuses on bringing about awareness of type 1 diabetes.
  5. He’s the youngest of four children.
  6. Outside of the car, he enjoys wakeboarding, karting, lifting, triathlon training and video games.

  2. Cheating a bit here, but his dad, Tim Cindric, is also the president of Team Penske.
  3. He went to the Cannon School in Concord, NC.
  4. Relatedly, he ended up competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway a few hours after graduating high school.
  5. He’s won the Presidential Fitness Award three times.

  1. He has a 6-year-old daughter (she turns 7 in July) with his now-ex wife.
  2. He used to own a pub in his hometown. Creatively, it was called Biffle’s Pub and Grill.
  3. His foundation helps to improve the well-being of animals and it donates to local Humane Societies, no-kill animal shelters, spay and neuter clinics and the Animal Adoption League.
  4. Outside of the car, he enjoys sand cars, boating, fishing and flying. He even owns several of his own planes.
  5. A 2007 Ford GT and a 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500 live in his garage.
  6. He’s made appearances on shows such as American Restoration, CBS’ Yes, Dear and the Food Network’s Paula’s Party.
